Silver-Washed Fritillary

While the sun was still shining, two Silver-Washed Fritillaries turned up to gorge on the lavender and flirt with one another. This is the upper wing of the male. It is a large butterfly and reasonably common (no butterflies seem to be common any more) in our part of the world as they like broad-leaf woodlands.
