Celebration Cake

We spent a very pleasant day today celebrating 50 years of the LDWA, and 40 years of the Cornwall and Devon Group of this organisation ( delayed since 2020). The LDWA stands for Long Distance Walkers Association. They organise social walks, usually about 20 miles, challenge walks, and an annual 100 mile challenge. This is held in a different part of the country each year usually to coincide with the late May holiday. Up to 500 people gather to walk 100 miles in 48 hours. Today we met on Dartmoor at an activity centre, and there were three walks of different lengths, a hot meal, a quiz, and a cake. Several of the older members were present, so there was much reminiscing, particularly about the 100s. These walks sound crazy, but they must be addictive as many members of our group have completed over twenty, and elsewhere some have done them all. I’ve never done one and no longer do the long social walks but at least I’m still walking. There are some characters among the members.
