Dappled Speckled

Lots of ringlet butterflies and quite a few meadow browns on the wing but not many others apart from the skippers. I've seen hardly any blues this year. We usually have plenty of speckled woods but they're a bit scarce too. I don't think I've ever captured one against a black background before.

While I was watching a lone comma patrolling the hazel hedge I noticed the crane fly in extras. I haven't seen a Tipula maxima before, it's the largest to be found in the UK.
