There are several different hoverflies around now but this is not so common perhaps because it tends to be a migrant from Europe and fewer are found in Scotland   I think it is a Pied hoverfly (Scaeva pyrastri) with its very distinctive white comma-shaped spots.  It was very hard to focus as it was flying very quickly around from flower to flower so this is heavily cropped
