Don’t Look Down!

Where is summer? Yet again we have a bleak, windy day which from the inside looking out might be a winter’s day rather than a midsummer one. I spent the morning with a friend amongst a noisy gaggle of new graduates fresh from their capping in The McEwan Hall. I couldn’t help wondering how much of their learning was done in front of a computer rather than in a lecture theatre.

Rather than fall asleep in front of the TV with the sound of thwacking tennis balls, I went out for a walk round the Meadows to see what was happening with the collection of caravans that had gathered towards the eastern side. Guess what, it is a circus being instated for the Fringe Festival. It’s only 3 weeks since the Meadows’ Festival Fair was dismantled. The Meadows is a green area in the centre of Edinburgh that just keeps on giving.

The firm with the franchise for washing windows in Quartermile is never without work and it is of a much more exciting kind than the usual, as the men swing high on wires secured on the roof above Just don’t look down!
