Jack Frost

A full morning of tidying up in the garden. I've cut most of the lower leaves off my sweet pea plants in an attempt to prolong the season. This is my favourite Brunnera, a striking variety called 'Jack Frost'.

An excellent butterfly transect walk this afternoon with near record numbers counted (180 in 35 minutes). The first Gatekeepers have now joined the mass of Meadow Browns. I hope it keeps up like this as I'm due to lead a guided butterfly walk in a couple of weeks. As a bonus I saw a Purple Emperor while walking the spaniel, my first for the year. In other news, zoology daughter had an encounter with Paul McCartney while checking for newts on his estate.
