Malleny

A fine '2nd Saturday Strollers' walk, starting from Spylaw Park (via no 10 bus) and walking down the Water of Leith to the Malleny Gardens.  A fine well kept walled garden, and more walking paths which we explored a little. The house is not open.

Tea at the Currie Rugby club; walked around the corner into Balerno to find the farmers' market just closing. So instead of getting the usual bread from Andante at the Castle market, we bought the same sort of half loaf from the stall near the Balerno Inn. A sociable relaxed lunch in the inn's outdoor patio. Back on the no 44 bus which dropped us at Haymarket. A place to revisit.

Extras :
Signpost where we started from Colinton
A large old Rambling Rector rose - the wall is the garden boundary, at least 2m tall, for scale.
A mock orange, philadelphus. There were two side by side, of slightly different varieties, and the bumble bees were visiting this one in preference to its neighbour.
