Barebraes-Debs Sarjeant

Geese overBarebraes, Shapinsay

These greylag geese are seen in Orkney all winter. They congregate on the fields in large numbers. Many Farmers scare them off as they tend to ruin fields which are used for grazing in the short summers we have. The beasts are kept in from Oct to April as weather is changeable. WInter is a busy time for cattle farmers as they need enough silage for the winter to keep the beasts fed and geese can make this even harder by ruining good grazing.
