The South Kirk

In contrast to the barn like austerity of the Auld Kirk the South Church is a towering, spikey Gothic fantasy in crisp granite. It was built in 1878- 1880 although the date carved on the Church is 1843, the year of the Disruption' when the Free Church broke away from the Church of Scotland.

Inside the church is the 'Moses stone' which depicts Moses and the stone tablets containing the 10 commandments and is thought to be a relic of the University of Fraserburgh which existed for a very brief period around 1613.
