The point of public art

I was once told the pointy thing at the foot of Leith Walk was the Narwhal Monument - but it turns out it's actually called The Pinnacle.

It seems the artist visited nearby Trinity House and got his inspiration from the narwhal tusks he saw there.

Apparently it's constructed from double bands of metal which rise from the ground front and back, and wrap themselves around to form a tall cone which finishes with a flourish at the top. According to the architect, this structure could be seen as "Leith and Edinburgh moving around each other."

Hmm. Could be, I suppose...
