Magnificent Middlethorpe Hall

Today started out very cloudy, misty, and rainy in the Lake District, but as we drove towards Yorkshire the weather cleared and now it's a beautiful sunny late afternoon.

We are spending the next two nights at beautiful Middlethorpe Hall, a William III country house set in 20 acres of gardens and parkland.  Build in 1699, it was once the home of the famous diarist Lady Mary Wortley Montagu.

We are very comfortably ensconced in the marvelous four poster bedroom you can see here -- and not a mysterious damp swim suit* in sight!

We're enjoying the fantasy of being lords of the manor.
