Concert star performer

Went to a concert of the Exeter Recorder Orchestra with a guest soloist Alfie Pugh who played piano(keyboard), xylophone and vibraphone. The sound created by about thirty recorders of all varieties was somewhat like a barrel organ! The smallest was a sopranino and the biggest a contrabass, 1.8 metres tall with a deep sound!

There was an amazing variety of music rewritten for recorders some of it successfully! The Fledermaus Overture was delightful and whizzy! The Moonlight Sonata was not a good one to attempt. There was also a pavan from the 16th century which was absolutely right for the instrument to and was a delight!

During the interval there was a lovely spread of cakes and fruit and pizza with a bowl for donations and a choice of tea or coffee!

The audience was smaller than the orchestra but it was lovely to feel the joy that playing gave the participants!
