'Legacy: Gears of Time'

The background tones nicely with the board and other components, lending an autumnal feel which may be out of step with the season but matches the mood and pace of the game rather well.

A rather different subject this time, and not just because it's a still life rather than a landscape; I don't think there's many boardgames on Blipfoto (though I'd be pleasantly surprised to be proven wrong).

So, a short review for anyone with an interest in strategy boardgames: 'Legacy: Gears of Time' is well produced and interestingly different - win by travelling back through time to control the history of human invention.

There's some randomness in the card draw, but the selection involved, and the lack of limitations on draws and hand size, means there are mitigating tactics, so that's not a major issue. It develops from a game of exploring, evaluating and exploiting options into one of protecting, expanding and consolidating your investments and the mix of actions you use each turn changes as the game goes on as a consequence.

The rules are fairly straightforward and relatively easy to grasp - it makes sense for example that both fire and the wheel need to have been discovered in some earlier era in order for the combustion engine to be invented - and you can quickly get into the swing of things. Overall, probably 8/10 for me - a very enjoyable game which I'd happily play again.
