Burnt Field

A lazy day with Bae after the excitement of the two parties yesterday. Mid afternoon we popped up to the gliding club with a water bottle delivery for Jackie. Challock village has a water cut so they were gasping. It was so hot on the airfield as it’s 600ft above sea level it’s always warmer up there.

Dropped Bae home ready for his night shift and on the way we drove past the Lenham Cross to see the field had burnt. Found this photo on the village Facebook group and read the field had set alight around 1030pm yesterday.

The Fire Brigade were thankfully able to stop the fire before it got to the chalk cross. It’s a war memorial and historic site so the community is keen to preserve it. In fact a clean up committee had spent the past two days cleaning the cross and litter picking. Feel sad for the farmer and his field.

Headed to the swimming pool this evening and had an interesting swim dodging teenagers dive bombing as the pool has annoyingly got rid of the adult lane for the last hour on weekends during the school holidays. I’ll have to stick to morning swims on weekends from now on.

This evening I pottered about tidying the flat and watering plants who are so thirsty in this heat. Another late supper and long phone chat to Debs before bed. Lay awake not able to sleep in the heat and missing my Bae… usual routine now.
