Valence

We went to the local market in the morning. In the evening I met up with my chilhood friend Alain, who has already been mentioned in my journal. We walked round Valence and chatted before going for a meal.He showed me the parts of Valence which have changed a lot since I left, in particular the area near the museum. The museum itself is apparently well worth seeing now. The strange inscriptions outside are replicated from one of the exhibit - a bone covered in notches, found in a grotto nearby (grotte de Thais). It is, apparently the first known form of annotation by humans and is thought to be a form of calendar.
