Child Obesity Symposium, Marriott Hotel, Stamford

This was a great event with three excellent speakers Dr. William former Director of the Division of Nutritional, Physical Activity, and Obesity in the CDC (Center for Chronic Disease and Prevention). Jeanette Ickovics, Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health and of Psychology at Yale University and Madhu Mathur, an obesity Medicine Physician and Pediatrician at Stamford Hospital. The numbers, the case studies and human stories made a deep impression.

I went to the symposium because knowledge is everything and to make a difference at the Yerwood Center takes commitment and ideas well thought through. There's no point in suggesting a school cum community garden if one isn't informed first.

The afternoon workshop included two panel members who are fast becoming my virtual mentors: Bill Callion runs Fairgate Farms and Pam Sloane (to Bill's left) established 20 school gardens in Stamford and created G.I.V.E (Green Initiative for Vegetables in Education).

Their testimonies were compelling and they brought sunshine to the room with their stories, practical help and advice.

I feel very excited about the future. The Yerwood Future.
