We set off early in the relative cool of the day to try to find the comparatively rare Northern Brown Argus butterflies at St Abbs Head beside Mire Loch.   Unfortunately we didn’t see any and nearly all of the butterflies that we did see were too fast.  However I managed to get some photos of the underwings of Graylings but they are not easy to spot at rest as they are well camouflaged and keep their wings closed when resting.  (As the photo is not very good I have put it in the extras)
The walk was quite varied. Firstly between fields with cows and sheep and barley then we dropped down to follow an indistinct path beside Mire Loch before stopping at Pettico Wick to wonder at the distorted strata of the cliffs to the north.  Then it was a climb up to the lighthouse and the cliff path back towards the village of St Abbs with the calls of the seabirds which had been raising young on the high cliff ledges.
