Veteran

Another early start ready for ahot day of survey in Burghley Park. We were mostly re-visiting the stream valley that we'd seen in early May, though the dramatic growth of Bracken made it much more inaccessible. We added some more key species to the site, but by early afternoon, as the heat was building, we decided there was little more we could do.

On our way back to the car we spent a bit of time appreciating some of the many veteran Pedunculate Oak and Sweet Chestnuts in the park. This Sweet Chestnut had a particularly interestingly shaped trunk - very ent-like!
