Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

Beauty and the Beast

Two very different forms of life on the rotting stump of a decorated sycamore tree in the garden.

At the top there is a Swallow-tailed Moth - Ourapteryx sambucaria.

Below are the asexual (spore producing) bodies of the wood eating fungus Xylaria polymorpha, commonly known as dead man's fingers.

I will leave it up to you to decide which is the beauty and which is the beast.
