Between fen and mountains

Local news

Our church and bells have featured in the regional paper. It seems they are finally catching on to the fact that the English church bells in the village are unique, the only ones capable of change ringing in France and only the third such tower in Europe. We had a meeting with the council liaison committee this morning and have informed them that the ringers from Saint Paul’s Cathedral will be coming in August and that we should make it a well advertised local event. These are the ringers who ring for royal weddings and national events. The council is keen to get involved and is also keen to plan the next bell festival in 2023. The first one after the inauguration of the bells was a great success with the Wakefield clog dancers, Catalan dancers, period costumes and lots of other activities that are still talked about in the community. It was very hot at French conversation in the afternoon so we sat under the shade of a tree and talked about the vagaries of both French and English grammar and vocabulary.
