Itching

This long hoverfly was cleaning its antennae. Obviously the pollen of the liatris is itching ;-)

Useless knowledge (*Facts you can know, but you don't have to. You could live without them, but they are interesting nonetheless.):
These long hoverflies can complete a full life cycle in as little as sixteen days (egg to egg-laying adult), and a maximum of nine generations may occur in a single year. The females lay up to 1000 eggs in aphid colonies, the larvae then feed on the aphids.
