A Golf Buggy Safari

B, H & I enjoyed a 'golf buggy safari' at the Watatunga Wildlife Park near King's Lynn.  This was a birthday present for H and was followed by an afternoon tea and a visit to Oxburgh Hall (see extra).
B's blip explains the whole day beautifully:  https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2997093360130329887
B had a long lens and took some stunning photos, so that really is the best place to look for an account of the day.  My camera's lens only goes up to 200mm so not great for photographing animals at a distance.  This is a photo of the large lake in the park, the structure at the back is a man-made bank for sand martins to nest in and there were loads of different ducks and wildfowl around as well as some 'Pere David' deer in the water in the distance.  Pere David deer were saved from extinction by the Duke of Bedford who bred the dwindling breed at Woburn Abbey and the estate even sent some of the deer back to China where they had been hunted to extinction there..

After the Safari and our delicious lunch we drove over to Oxburgh Hall which is at long last free of all the scaffolding as it now has its new roof.  We had a look round the house and grounds and finished with a delicious ice cream at the cafe.

Unfortunately, the journey home was a nightmare.  The main route to North Norfolk through Swaffham was closed and a lengthy diversion took as several miles in the opposite direction and then a misplaced (deliberately?) sign took as round in a huge loop.  We were getting nowhere so we decided to cross country by means of narrow roads and lanes and encountered even more closed roads and confusing or missing signs and got a bit lost.  With the help of B & H and the recent purchase of a road atlas and selective use of the sat nav we managed to get home, but the journey was twice as long as it should have been and rather stressful.  It didn't spoil what had a been a fab day though.

I had a large G&T when I got home!
