Gently down the stream

Countryfile

Filming with Countryfile today at Butser Ancient Farm . Here are (L2R) Butser's lovely experimental archaeologist, Ryan, the BBC's equally lovely presenter Matt Baker with his producer, various crew, Butser-ites and my colleague Rachel. They're discussing Ryan's attempt to make a log boat by using hot cinders to remove the core. The half trunk being used was a piece of seasoned oak brought down in the 1987 storm.

(I got to handle a 400,000 year old stone axe and a 3,500 year old copper axe, which was kinda cool. Thanks, Jim)

If you think Matt's looking tired, he was, having spent much of the day climbing rigging at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. The programme airs on May 12.

Enjoy your weekend, peeps x
