Red Squirrel

This cheeky chap was staring at me this morning from high in a pine tree. Luckily I managed to grab the little camera in time and grab a couple of shots before he was on his way. It was taken in the shadows, but I managed to salvage a reasonable image from the raw file.
At home we only tend to see grey squirrels as the red squirrel population there is under decline.
It is said that the grey squirrel population is contributing largely to their decline. The grey squirrels are actively fighting with reds and driving them out, they out-competing them for food, space, breeding sites and are spreading the squirrel poxvirus disease that is killing off the reds.

Another shot in the extra.
