Enchanter’s Nightshade

Enchanter’s Nightshade (Circaea lutetiana) - 'Delicate, mystical, persistent' - flowering under the Ornamental Cherry at the end of our back garden on this cool summer evening.

I've always been fascinated by this plant - a member of the Willowherb family - both by it's name, and by the sight of it carpeting the floor of some ancient woodland.

I was therefore delighted to find a single plant growing in a crack in the concrete next to our garden shed last year. I transplanted it to the 'woodland edge' at the far end of our garden, watered it in well and hoped for the best - and today I was rewarded!
