Natural order

His was an ordered nature and he looked for, and appreciated, order in every thing. His natural inclination was to shun nature with its complete lack of order but Nature is too large and pervasive a lady to ignore and, as he came to know her in small ways, he recognised elements of order amongst the chaos. The predictable turning of the seasons and the patterns contained in a single plant’s leaves and flowers, the snail’s spiralling shell and the scales of the fish on his plate all spoke of order that, rather than being absent, merely required observation and application to uncover. Over time he became the complete convert and maintained that it was the works of Man that were random and unformed whereas Mature was all Mathematics and order.
