Lady V has decided to invest in an air fryer after a few of her friends have raved about them. Only that day I had listened to a BBC podcast called ‘sliced bread’ which investigates consumer products to ascertain whether they are indeed the ‘best thing since sliced bread’ or purely marketing bullshit!

The podcast had intimated that they use a fraction of the electricity that a conventional oven uses and are also a lot quicker offering similar result but far easier to clean and operate. So off we toddled to a local retailer to make said purchase.

The mechanics behind these machines are that they are basically a small version of a convection oven but given the capacity of the drawers they tend to cook a lot quicker, I done a small joint of lamb last night approx 890g which according to the instructions would take 89 minutes in the oven for my liking. I coated it with some herbs salt pepper and chucked it in the drawer, the roast potatoes were part cooked and coated lightly with oil, salt, pepper and crushed garlic, the lamb was good to go and rest after 27 minutes of cooking and the roast potatoes were perfect after about 15 minutes.

I’m not one for product endorsement but need to say this machine is superb. Tuna melt sandwiches take about 2 minutes per side, don’t think our oven has been on since we bought it.
