The Landquart River

Last night after that long hike I had quite a headache, and it lasted until this morning. Tommy woke up also not feeling great and with a headache, and I think we both had a touch of sun stroke from yesterday or possibly just dehydration from lack of water. We did not drink anything on our long hike as usually we don't carry water as there are so many clear and clean streams, but with cows around Inca alerted us to the danger of drinking water which could be affected by cows.

However, Tommy and Inca had planned to do a very ambitious hike today, and thankfully he felt okay after breakfast to do it. They made sandwiches and packed plenty of water and off they went - not home yet but we have spoken to them during the day. Tommy forgot his spectacles at the refuge hut so he had to go back to get them which added another couple of hours on to their already long hike! Hope they are home before sunset!

The rest of us I had an easier day. Gavin, Luke and Meriel went for a run, Adam went to the gym. After the run Gavin and I went to get groceries. It's easier to shop most days as the locals do, as this year we have noticed the fruit has not been to it's usual high standard and there are often things that are usually available that are not. So we need to pop in most days to see if certain things we want, like strawberries, are in stock.

After the groceries were packed away we set out for a cycle up the valley - not at all strenuous on e-bikes, I remember the days when it was so difficult cycling up the valley on a regular bike. E-bikes have been very popular here for many years now, as it is so hilly here we see that most people have them, even the hard core mountain bikers! We had lunch at a mountain restaurant up the valley and then came home again. The cycle/walking path runs along this river which is very scenic.

Tonight Meriel is making supper. I have been spoilt and have not had to cook supper this week, every night one of the young adults have been making dinner - delicious vegan meals. Luke made an amazing Ottolenghi recipe the other night, Spaghetti all Norma, with grilled aubergines which is one of my favourite vegetables. Last night Tommy and Inca made a roasting tin meal of roasted gnocchi (GF for me) with tomatoes, onions and peppers served with basil and ricotta (not for lactose free me and vegan Meriel) but we had an alternative topping.

We have also been so lucky with the weather. The forecast was for rain all week, it was not looking good at all - yet it has been beautiful every day this week, sunny and warm. It's catching up with us tomorrow as rain is forecast and this time it looks believable.
