Pitmedden Gardens

Mrs CBL and I had a most enjoyable visit to Pitmedden Gardens this morning.  We started with freshly baked scones and coffees in the café and they were delicious.

Then we visited the gardens.  The new deconstructed parterre (upper garden) looked stunning.  It was designed by Chelsea Flower Show gold medallist Chris Beardshaw who used modern horticultural practices to maximise floral reward, biodiversity and aesthetics, while being mindful of the need to reduce the inputs – material, financial and human, with a focus on the changing climate.

The lower garden is the long established formal garden which was looking good, although some of the hedges were in need of a trim.  The borders were most attractive as you can see in the main image.
Finally we visited the orchard which, eight years on from its creation, is now bearing fruit in abundance.  Apples, plums, damsons, cherries, strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries and blackcurrants all looked ripe for the plucking.

A great day out, Pitmedden has never looked better.
