Le Train Touristique

Today we cycled up to the tip of the Gironde peninsula for lunch as the excellent cycle paths through the forests have reopened. This tourist train runs through the woods between Soulac sur Mer and Pointe de Grave and the cycle path crosses the track in several places. It's only about 4 miles or so, but it is great for families with young children who don't want to cycle all the way back again as you can put your bikes on it. The train itself is a smelly and noisy old diesel which rattles and travels quite slowly as we overtook it on our bikes!
The railway was originally constructed many years ago to ferry materials to build the sea defences near Soulac.
