Big sky

On Thursday I went to a spectacular photographic exhibition in the Natural History Museum in London: Sebastiao Salgado's Genesis.

Salgado is a Brazilian who cares deeply about the state, and future, of the planet. He grew up on his parents' farm in the rainforest. By the time he had inherited the farm, the rainforest had been decimated and the land was virtually dead. He has spent many years now replanting hundreds of thousands of trees to revive the rainforest at least on his own land.

His photography explores important themes. His most famous project is probably "Work". Since the Millennium he has been documenting the pristine places that survive on our planet, and that what is covered in this exhibition: the icy vastness of Antarctica, the jungles of Borneo and South America, forgotten tribes in Africa.... He looks at landscapes, animals and people. It's a wonderful exhibition!

And all his photos are in black & white - a deep velvety black and a sparkling snowy white. I'm inspired to work on my B&W shots, as in the big sky above.
