Forgotten Songs

Forgotten Songs is an installation by Michael Thomas Hill, consisting of empty bird cages suspended above Angel Place, a lane in Sydney's CBD. It includes recordings of the songs of 50 birds which change during the day and night, depending on when the different bird species are active. These birds once lived in the central Sydney area before being gradually forced out by European settlement and urbanisation.

The installation concerns native species' habitat loss which often leads to extinction.
