Rusty lock

This is the lock on a gate to my garden. I guess it is over a hundred years old, and needless to say we don't have a key. The gate is kept shut with a wire loop.

The gate leads to the back door. Long ago, tradesmen would (I imagine) have come this way and rung the bell at the back. In these more equal times, everyone comes to the front door, and the only use the gate gets is to take out the wheelie bin.

It looks as if the gate has been painted green, blue and black at different times. Clearly it is overdue for some more paint.
