Deep Underground

Well this is something I never imagined I'd willingly do.  Today we donned hard hats and life vests and entered the Bergtatt Marble Mines near the town of Molde, Norway.

After driving deep into the mountain, we boarded a small boat and floated on the most amazingly clear water as we slowly passed through caves created by the marble mining operations.  Sometimes we had to duck our heads, and water dripped down from the ceilings.  It was very creatively lit (as you can see), and eerily beautiful, if a little claustrophobic!

The marble that comes from this mountain is used primarily for creating high gloss papers such as those found in magazines like National Geographic.
