Nets

These colourful nets are used for trawling for langoustines in the Firth of Forth. It was announced yesterday that the lobster fishermen on the East Coast of Scotland are having a dreadful time because of the prolonged bad weather. The storms have damaged lobster creels and nets and the cold water has forced lobsters to hibernate or go further out to sea so landings have been down about 90%. A fisherman returning in his boat told us that after examining his creels it just wasn't worth hauling them in with so few lobsters. The langoustine supplies are not much better so there can't be much income at the moment as restaurants say their diners would be unwilling to pay a high price and there are insufficient supplies for the Continental markets where most of the catch goes.
