Evie

Evie

Evie from Evie:
 - of that ilk –
‘The Wonderdog’, somebody called her,
for often she stood,
and wondered.
Not the brightest,
in loving not effusive,
faithful companion for fourteen years,
our tears surely she has earned;
and a word of praise,
for walking us out,
come sun or rain or the coorsest o days.

Amidst the signs of slow decline
unobtrusively appeared
certain sinister signs,
and
as we had feared,
the Big C.
Kindest decision: let her fly free;
commend her to a higher Care,
Now she’s ‘crossed the brig to the fields o life’
and she’ll walk forever there.
