New architecture

On 17th July I uploaded a photo of wasps entering this bird box, but since then they have concentrated on building on the outside of the box.  Some of these structures are unconnected with inside or with any other and are obviously hollow as wasps can disappear into them.
These structures are beautiful and I have never seen one before, except in pictures.
Any links to information about this type of wasp nest would be appreciated!
