Battle of Evesham 4th August 1265

Great reenactment of a tragic battle in Evesham where an estimated 5000 men lost their lives.

I have sorted through some of my images to give you a feel of what the re-enactors achieved - they are all volunteers and provide their own costumes.

Simon de Montfort “ Father of Representative Parliament “ and his army were defeated and slaughtered by Prince Edward.

Edward used the Red Cross on a White background to identify his troops for the first time at the battle. The emblem is now referred to as St George’s Cross and became the official flag of England.

Edward recommended that de Monfort’s Representative Parliament should be kept intact. In 1776 US Laws were formed and de Montfort was an influence. His marble portrait plaque can be seen over the doors of the House Chamber in the US Capitol Building.
