Road Race

The final day of  the Commonwealth Games featured among other sports, the Women's and the Men's Cycling road race. The race was held in Warwick , Leamington and the lanes of rural Warwickshire. It was a beautiful hot summer day and we cycled over to Hampton on the Hill to watch them come by on circuits 2 to 6 of the 160 kilometre race. It was eventually won by New Zealander Aaron Gate. Congratulations and well done to him.
In the photo Geraint Thomas  riding for Wales, is the second cyclist from the left, he went into the lead about a kilometre from the end, but was overtaken and finished eighth.
The women’s race was won by Australian Georgia Baker. That started at 8 am so was a bit early for us!
