Dish

Today we visited the observatory at Jodrell Bank. It was very interesting- built in the 50’s it was started by Bernard Lovell who had the idea to use radio wave science used in WW2 to explore space and further astronomy. This is the main dish which was saved from being abandoned by the advent of Sputnik and the need to compete with the soviets in the space race. This led to government funding to allow the dish to be completed. Fascinating place!
