Aberlemno Sculptured Stones

Today was finally a much delayed trip to photograph the Pictish Stones.   They date from AD500 and AD 800.   There are 4 of them close to the road through the village and another, this one, in the churchyard. (One of the roadside ones in Extras).

The task was delayed due to travel restrictions during the pandemic and the fact that they are covered for much of the year to protect them from bad weather.

I was originally asked in order to tie in with a documentary film being made about them but I haven't heard anything further about that.

And in the other Extra is one of the late Jim McLean, manager of Dundee United.   I was asked to stop off and get some shots of that one on the way to the Stones.   Jim McLean was an amazing manager who achieved a lot of success with the club on a shoestring budget.  He turned down numerous offers to go to bigger clubs.  He famously lead them to victory over the mighty Barcelona in a European semi final.  He described that match as a corner shop against a supermarket.  The corner shop won!
