Hayle

We visited the little town of Hayle today, just along the coast from St Ives. It’s a fascinating place with a rich history during the Industrial Revolution. But I also noticed this memorial to Rick Rescorla who died on Nine Eleven. He was born in Hayle, joined the British Army and served as a paratrooper during the Cyprus Emergency. He was a commissioned officer in the United States Army during the Vietnam War rising to the rank of colonel. He then became Director of Security for Morgan Stanley at the World Trade Centre. Anticipating terrorist attacks he implemented evacuation procedures that were credited with saving thousands of lives. He died leading evacuees down the stairwell of the South Tower.
