Water lilies.

Trying to stay cool when the temperature reached 34C.

We had booked lunch at our favourite place before we knew it would be soo hot.
However it was nice and cool inside The Star Inn at Sancton, and their Yorkshire Lunch was as delicious as always. ( see map)

We both chose the same starter.
Home cured trout, with samphire, dulse gribiche, compressed cucumber, capers and pickled shallot.

Main course:
Mr.C. Pan roast Sykes House Farm beef bavette, with broccoli and spinach purée, sauerkraut cabbage, horseradish soubrise, and of tongue jus.

I had Pan roast sea bream with chorizo beignets, Baarda’s tomato and basil oassata, confit tomatoes, aubergine purée, and green oil.

Both chose the same dessert:
Elderflower poached peach with gooseberry jam, biscuit crumb and vanilla cheesecake.

Mr C fancied ginger beer as he was driving, and I had a French Chardonnay. Both well chilled.
Three courses of this quality for £25 must be the best value not only in Yorkshire but the UK.

The lady at the next table to us was with her daughter, celebrating her 90th birthday.
I went over to wish her Many Happy Returns, and said I hoped I was still coming here for lunch when I reached 90!

We then drove to Burnby Hall in Pocklington for a walk round the lakes and garden, and to see the water lilies.
It was nice to have some shade, and amusing to see everyone sat under the trees instead of out in the sunshine.
The water lilies, which were replanted a few years ago, are now beginning to get established, and they looked beautiful in the bright sunshine.
We didn’t stay as long as usual as it was so hot.
Nice to sit in the shade when we got home, with a cool drink.

So despite the high temperatures we have had a lovely day.
