Preparing for Winter, No. 1

Things are not looking good for the coming Winter. Let us hope it is not a 1947 type.

There is much speculation about the possibility of power outages. So in her inimitable way Mrs. K. is thinking ahead. This is a woolly hat incorporating a USB chargeable LED light. A charming pink. A grey one is on order for me.

Although we have a lot of candles in cupboards they are not the best thing for unsteady octogenarians. But these should allow us to get to all parts of our house and to read the crossword clues.

The woodburning stove should keep us warm.

For those interested careful, detailed records are being kept on the recently installed Air Source Heat Pump. Of course at present it is just providing hot water for our household needs. It switches on once per day to do this.
With the aid of our Smart Meter we are able to say that this is costing us approximately £1 per day.
But of course the solar panels are providing the electricity to run it and therefore in practice our hot water is free.

It will begin to get more interesting in the Autumn when it begins to heat the house.
