Trelissick House

The roads in Cornwall are surprisingly quiet this week - I think everyone is on the beach. We drove to the pretty fishing village of St Mawes across the King Harry Ferry, had lunch at our favourite restaurant on the Roseland Peninsula, then spent the afternoon in the beautiful gardens of Trelissick House (National Trust).

The magnificent 19th Orangery is normally where NT members take afternoon tea. But there were signs up this afternoon saying that it was uncomfortably warm in there (an understatement!). The hothouse plants in there were thriving. I’ve no idea what the striking purple flower is, but there were lots of wonderful succulents, which were also for sale in the shop. I’ve no idea how I managed to drag MrHCB away without a car boot full!
