Where the fields meet the sea

Took the car to the garage early to have the faulty bonnet lock fixed. Had to kill time so walked to Torquay harbour. The town is not a pretty sight in the morning.
Found a new place for coffee with a rooftop view. Later we went swimming with friends at Broadsands. The beach is adjacent to a farm which has traditional haystacks at the moment in the fields. I didn’t think I had any jellyfish after effects from yesterday until I started swimming. I suddenly felt very odd with no sense of direction but graceful and mesmerising. In the paper I read with sadness that Raymond Briggs, author of the Snowman, and Fungus the Bogeyman, had died.
