Thruster

Family departed, for a while at least, a shady walk beckoned.
Leaves already falling parched and crispy, rowan berries red on the branches, rosebay willowherb pods exploding on their stems like ruptured feather pillows, blackberries huge, glossy and sun-sweet,  acorns and beechmast already fully formed... and then this glorious rubicund Boletus in mid-path, propelled through the cooked earth by virtue of some subterranean plumbing we can only guess at.

(Possibly Boletus, now Suillellus, luridus but I didn't want to disturb it to examine it more closely.)
