Harvest 2022

Michael gave me a ring quite early this morning telling me that they had decided to go out early and harvest their beans. There is some talk of rain and maybe even quite severe thunderstorms coming so they decided to have an early start and get them in today.  I took this photo at 8.30am, what looks a bit like late afternoon light is in fact early(ish) morning light.

It's not usual to see them out combining so early, normally they would start towards midday and work on into the evening but everything is so dry and there was no morning dew to worry about so an early start it was. Just as well because we did get a little rain this afternoon but nowhere near enough to be any good.

The crop isn't what they would have liked, there has been no rain and that has affected the yield... not much over a ton per acre but the quality of what they have got looks good.

And that's Michael and Chris' harvest over, the combine is finished with for another year. I'll be helping Chris blow it down and clean it next week.
