Still a youngster

Stopped off at Western Springs before heading into the Waitakeres. A good brisk walk around the lake completed before any rain showers came.

I saw this young black swan preening while floating on the surface. My attention had been caught as it flapped its wings when I first approached. It then spent a considerable time preening, before another flapping of the wings. My patience was rewarded.

The frey feathers of the immature are still present, so that the swan hasn't yet got the strong black of the fully adult.
