SS Denham

A quick geocache with Paul this morning as we went out to visit the wreck of the SS Denham off Wallasey beach.

The wreck can only be visited at low tide and it is about a mile direct walk from the car park at Derby Pool.

The SS Denham had been sunk in a terrible accident in July 1946 when it struck a German mine that had been dropped during an air raid and  remained undetected in the waters off New Brighton. The explosion killed eight members of the crew with only one survivor. The boat was on the way back to port after surveying Liverpool Bay.
